Norway as you have never thought before!

Industry, Energy, Resources and all within a Stable Environment.

NU Norway

Norway as you have never seen before!

Images of snow, skiing, fishing and sailing we all know. But now Norway is marketing itself as the perfect place for environmentally sensitive business and business expansion.

Ready for industry, with hydro-electric power, oil, gas, wind, and a whole range of resources such as land, water, access to sites through land, sea and water.

Carbon capture from industry is a serious issue in Norway. The Norwegian Government has plans for a full scale CO2-capturing plant at Kårstø, near the industry parks, and they are building a demonstration/pilot plant at Mongstad. Aker Clean Carbon is running a test facility outside Stavanger.

Infrastructure for captured CO2 is being planned. Captured CO2 from Kårstø will be transported to the Utsira formation (offshore Norway) for disposal. This formation has been used for some years for the separated CO2 from the Sleipner field. The planned infrastructure will have a capacity to transport CO2 from other industries through a CO2 hub located in Haugaland Industrial Park. Will Norway be the first country with an established infrastructure for Carbon Capture System?

There are also plans for a subtantial development of offshore windpower in Norway. The first offshore windmills are under construction and will be placed just outside Haugesund. The deep Norwegian sea trench require that these windmills will be floating!

The island of Utsira (offshore to the parks) has for some years had an interesting demonstration plant where windmills and fuel cells supply the island with electricity. The goal is to make the municipality a zero-emmissions community.

Why NU Norway?

There is a route which you can sail from Stavanger to Bergen, mostly sheltered from the North Sea to the west. This route was called the Northern Way in the old days, and soon shortened to Norway, hence the name of this country. For more information see Destination Haugalandet.

That route now goes between two huge business parks, Haugalund Industrial Park and Karmøy Industrial Park.

These new parks in the region have a development service called Nordvegen Utvikling (NU) which is an association between two of the largest companies in the area, Norsk Hydro and Haugaland Kraft, with a remit to prepare for and establish a "Power Centre" for industry.

These development areas are accessible from the North Sea geographically close to industrial areas such as the North East of England.
